The Benefits of Travel

As the world continues to “reopen,” the prospects of traveling are alive and well once again. From local events such as attending professional sporting events, to local attractions, business trips, and family vacations.

Traveling offers us a chance to see different spaces, to have new adventures, meet new people, and most importantly, to experience other cultures other than our own.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to go to Miami, FL for a Yo! Grow Your Gym Mastermind meet up. Twice a year I invest my time, energy, and money into traveling to link up with my coaches and other members of our mentorship group.

It’s incredibly valuable on many levels. It’s a chance to link up with other like-minded professionals, a chance to interact in person with my coaches, and it’s a chance to pull back from the day to day operations of life as I typically know it.

No matter where our “origin story” begins, traveling has a way of slowly expanding our understanding of the world around us, and it doesn’t take much to place ourselves in new and unique places, at least not as much as many make it seem.

I got the opportunity to train in a cool Miami gym. I ate amazing food, checked out some amazing street style Art-work, drank new (& delicious) wine, and had new and interesting conversations, many of which I needed.

Sure, most will stick to the main roads, to the tourist spots, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Self awareness will place you where you need to be.

But if you’re searching for truly authentic moments, many of those will take place off the beaten path, simple things, like trying something new at dinner, just because you can order chicken pretty much anywhere. (I had Red Snapper for the first time, guess what, turns out I like Red Snapper)

Yes, there may be some uncomfortable moments, like getting lost or realizing the location of your lodging isn’t what you thought, but let’s not forget, often times growth comes right after moments of discomfort.

Maybe you can’t fly to Miami, maybe it’s to far for you, or perhaps, it’s not far enough. Wherever you find yourself today, be there, right there in that moment and appreciate it for what it is, and for what it’s bringing you.

We get one life, I want to live my one life with as many moments as possible. How about you?
